Udyamee, Ahmedabad:

The Gujarat Government informed the Legislative Assembly on Monday that the Dholera Special Investment Region (Dholera SIR) is expected to create nearly 8 lakh jobs once it becomes fully operational.

In response to a question regarding the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway and the Dholera International Airport, Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma provided details about the ongoing development projects. The minister stated that the construction of a 9.56 km link road will be undertaken at a cost of Rs. 550.49 crores, following a greenfield alignment.

Dholera SIR, located in Ahmedabad district, is being developed as a 920-square-kilometer Greenfield Industrial Smart City, with its first phase covering 153 square kilometers.

The state government highlighted that the region is already home to renewable energy production facilities, including solar cell and module manufacturing by Renew, as well as a 300 MW solar plant by Tata Power. Additionally, Polycab is setting up an electronic equipment manufacturing unit, while Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd. is constructing India’s first commercial semiconductor fabrication facility.

To support Dholera SIR’s infrastructure, several major projects are underway, including the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, the Ahmedabad-Dholera Metro Rail Transport, and the Dedicated Freight Corridor connecting Bhimanath to Dholera SIR.

The Central Government is overseeing the construction of the 109-km Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, which is expected to be completed by May 2025. The expressway is designed to accommodate approximately 25,000 vehicles daily, with a maximum speed limit of 120 km per hour. Its design also allows for future expansion, enabling it to be widened from four lanes to twelve lanes as traffic increases.

Additionally, to enhance local connectivity, the project will integrate four cloverleaf interchanges, including one at Adalaj. These initiatives aim to not only improve infrastructure but also promote sustainability and create economic opportunities in the region.
