Udyamee, Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Gujarat Semiconct Conference 2025 in Gandhinagar on Wednesday. Speaking at the occasion, he highlighted that this conference is an important step toward positioning Gujarat as a global semiconductor hub. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat is preparing to play a pivotal role in the global semiconductor demand-supply chain.
Over 1,500 delegates from India and abroad, approximately 250 exhibitors, 6 country-specific roundtables, and 7 panel discussions will be part of the conference.
Chief Minister Patel emphasized Gujarat’s potential for becoming a center of high-tech manufacturing with immense growth prospects. He noted that, with the implementation of a dedicated semiconductor policy, Gujarat has developed state-of-the-art facilities for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing. At the outset of the conference, eight important MoUs (Memoranda of Understanding) were signed, marking a significant milestone in the state’s semiconductor sector development.
Key MoUs Signed: The MoUs signed at the conference are crucial for the rapid expansion of Gujarat’s semiconductor sector. These include:
- Jabil India: Agreement to set up a new Silicon Photonics manufacturing unit with an investment of Rs. 1,000 crore.
- India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) & Tata Electronics (TEPL): MoU for providing financial assistance from the Central Government for the Semiconductor Fab unit at Dholera.
- Tata Electronics & IIT Gandhinagar: MoU for skill development initiatives in the semiconductor sector.
- Tata Electronics, Taiwan’s PSMC, & Hymax Technologies: A tripartite agreement for the production of semiconductor chips at Dholera.
- Keynes Technology & Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (AOS): Laying of the foundation stone for a new semiconductor unit at Sanand.
- Taiwan Surface Mounting Technology (TSMT): MoU for setting up a new Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) unit with an investment of more than Rs. 500 crore.
- Micron Technology: MoU for efforts in environment, health, security, STEM education, and the development of skilled manpower.
- NextGen, Hitachi, and Solidlite: MoU to set up a compound semiconductor Fab and Opto Electronics facility in Gujarat, with an investment of Rs. 10,000 crore.
In addition, the foundation stone was laid for a new hospital, an international school, and a fire station to be constructed in Dholera Sir.
Reports Released: The conference also saw the release of two significant reports:
- Semiconductor Manufacturing Supply Chain by the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).
- Vision to Reality – Make in India Product Initiative.
Global Support for Gujarat’s Semiconductor Vision:
Gursharan Singh, Senior Vice President of Micron Technology, reiterated the company’s commitment to invest and expand in Gujarat. He emphasized that Micron is rapidly developing in Gujarat, thanks to the government’s support and conducive business environment. Singh also highlighted that initiatives like this conference will further boost the state’s semiconductor industry while promoting local employment and skill development.
During the conference, the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Marissa Gerards, and other global leaders stressed the importance of strong semiconductor cooperation between India and the Netherlands. “Visionary leadership and policies are essential in making Gujarat the semiconductor hub of India,” she said.
