The Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has announced a significant update to its Udyam Registration process, emphasizing digital documentation through DigiLocker. The move is aimed at streamlining business registrations and enhancing ease of doing business in India.
This initiative, detailed in a circular from the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises dated January 1, 2025, aims to enhance the ease of doing business for MSMEs while promoting digital integration. According to the new guidelines, businesses applying for Udyam Registration can submit their documents via DigiLocker, eliminating the need for physical copies or manually uploaded files.
This initiative supports the government’s vision of a paperless, efficient, and transparent process for MSME registration. Documents stored in DigiLocker are legally recognized under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and are considered equivalent to original documents, stated the notification.
Key Highlights:
- Integration with DigiLocker:
- Applicants can now directly link their DigiLocker account with the Udyam Registration portal.
- Documents stored in DigiLocker will be accepted as valid proof during the registration process.
- Ease of Access:
- MSMEs can retrieve, verify, and submit documents seamlessly, reducing paperwork and time.
- This digitized approach minimizes errors and ensures quicker verification and approval.
- Environmental Benefits:
- The paperless system contributes to the government’s sustainability goals by reducing the environmental impact associated with traditional documentation methods.
- User-Friendly Process:
- Detailed steps on linking DigiLocker with Udyam Registration are outlined on the official portal, making it accessible even for non-tech-savvy users.
This initiative is expected to encourage more small businesses to formalize their operations and take advantage of the benefits offered under the MSME schemes, including access to credit, subsidies, and government programs.
With this integration, the Ministry of MSME reinforces its commitment to leveraging technology to promote transparency, efficiency, and ease for India’s thriving small business sector.
